Il gruppo nasce nel 1968 ad opera di Jon Anderson (voce), Peter Banks (chitarre), Tony Kaye (tastiere), Bill Bruford (batteria) e Chris Squire (basso). I primi due album sono un misto tra cover riviste e pezzi propri, ma le canzoni risultano vuote e i dischi non hanno successo. Solo con l'album "The Yes Album" che gli Yae si fanno conoscere al grande pubblica con una musica davvero originale. Hanno all'attivo 25 album tra registrazioni in Studio, Live e raccolte.
