Durante la 52esima edizione degli oscar della musica – i Grammy Awards – che si terranno a Los Angeles il 31 gennaio 2010, vi sarà un omaggio a Michael Jackson. Usher, Celine Dion, Jennifer Hudson, Smokey Robinson e Carrie Underwood saliranno insieme sul palco della manifestazione per un ultimo tributo al Re del Pop. Contestualmente, sarà anche presentato un mini-movie in 3D che avrebbe dovuto essere proiettato durante lo show This is It, avente come sottofondo Earth Song.
Nei giorni successivi all’assegnazione dei Grammy, Quincy Jones e Lionel Richie incideranno una nuova versione di We Are The World assieme ad alcuni dei nomi più noti del panorama musicale internazionale, con l’obiettivo di raccogliere fondi per aiutare i terremotati di Haiti.
La canzone è stata scritta proprio da Lionel Richie assieme a Michael Jackson e coprodotta da Quincy Jones nel 1985 per raccogliere fondi in favore dell’Africa. Nella versione del 1985, We Are The World era cantata da oltre 40 artisti tra cui Stevie Wonder, Bob Dylan, Ray Charles, Dionne Warwick, Bette Midler, Waylon Jennings, Paul Simon, Willie Nelson e Bruce Springsteen.
Questa volta vi parteciperanno, tra gli altri, Usher, Natalie Cole, John Legend, Wyclef Jean, Sting, Fergie, Alicia Keys e Justin Timberlake.
Il CD con le 20 canzoni in nomination sarà disponibile dal 19 gennaio: il ricavato delle vendite sarà devoluto alla MusiCares® Foundation e alla GRAMMY Foundation®, due fondazioni create dalla Recording Academy.
